Lil Pooky & The Zydeco Sensations
Lil Pookie’s musical journey began in the heart of Opelousas, LA, better known as the Zydeco Capitol of the world. Born in a small community, Frilot Cove, he spent most of his childhood watching other musicians and sneaking into clubs to gain knowledge of what was already instilled in him. It wasn’t long that he began playing the same music he craved. He began his musical career by playing the Frotoir or Rubboard known to most. He gained exposure through traveling with the popular Zydeco Force.
At the age of 12, he shocked the Zydeco World by entering and winning the first accordion contest at the popular “Zydeco Extravaganza." He began to learn other instruments and became a drummer with the Zydeco Blazers and later became the groups accordion player.
The development of his unique style is a result of a lifetime of musical influence and background. Being born into a talented musical family meant that the music was in him from conception. His Grandfather, the late Delton Broussard, was the forefront of his roots and was instrumental in Pookie’s interest in playing the accordion.
As his confidence grew and his style developed, he soon saw a loyal following begin to grow and he became a popular local hit in Louisiana and Texas. His talent with a variety of musical instruments only added to his appeal, and his unique “Rap” influenced sound started to find an appreciative audience. Lil Pookie has played at famous places such as the Southwest Lousiana Zydeco Festival, Wolf Trap in Washington D.C. and Festival International.
After a short break from the Zydeco scene, Lil Pookie realized that the music was still very much alive, inside. Lil Pookie and The Zydeco Sensations are back, better than ever with an electrifying magnitude of lyrics!
