Easter comes in the spring, when the earth renews itself after a long, cold winter. And while Easter is identified with spring and rebirth, it is the egg that has come to signify the season, and the Easter holiday itself. Learn about the tradition behind Easter egg dyeing as well as natural dyeing techniques that were used before modern day food coloring was around. Regular admission. Memberships honored. Discounts available for groups of 20 or more.

The Lafayette Parish Bayou Vermilion District along with the Jean Lafitte Acadian Cultural Center have partnered to offer boat tours of the Bayou Vermilion. Experience the tidal river known as the Bayou Vermilion while riding on a traditionally built bateau called Cocodrie, French for alligator.

Cocodrie was constructed by our Restoration Specialist, Faren Serrette, who is a 4th generation master boat builder. The voyage begins with a fascinating introduction on the Bayou Vermilion as a historical, cultural and natural resource treasure. You will travel upriver toward Bayou Tortue where the boat captain will provide you with some history as well as the geology and ecology of the river and how it formed. You will also learn about the Bayou Vermilion District and our efforts to restore the Vermilion as one of the city's most valuable assets.
Spring and Summer boat tours begin on the first Saturday in March and end in May. Fall boat tours will begin on the first Saturday in September and end the last Saturday in November.

Please note : Two weeks' advance registration is required to book a boat tour. Boat Tours are always subject to interruptions or postponement due to weather conditions and water levels in the Bayou Vermilion. There is a $30 minimum cost for a boat tour. If your party's total does not meet this minimum, additional fees may be added.

The 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month in April and May, Vermilionville will offer the chance for walk-in visitors to experience a boat tour at 11:00 a.m. Regular fees apply. Reservations are made on a first come, first served basis when our admissions desk opens at 10:00 a.m.

Call Vermilionville at 337.233.4077 x 199 for more information and registration details.
